Job summary

City of Worcester seeks a Regional Dispatcher II Apprentice for the Emergency Communications Department. You will learn to receive and transmit information via CAD, dispatch police, fire, and EMS, and ensure rapid, accurate responses. Training and certifications are provided upon hire.

Qualifications

• Ability to learn and understand Department policy, procedures, and equipment.
• Demonstrated computer proficiency; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Strong organizational skills and flexibility; detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy
• Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality
• Ability to complete projects with limited supervision
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with diverse populations
• Ability to pass State 911 and APCO Certification
• Regular onsite attendance is required
• Ability to pass a CORI to become CJIS Certified

Responsibilities

• Operate a computer-aided-dispatch (CAD) system
• Answer emergency and non-emergency telephone calls promptly and courteously
• Obtain complete information from callers and make a rapid and accurate determination of the nature and priority of each call
• Select and dispatch the most appropriate emergency response unit(s) in accordance with established policies
• Monitor safety of field personnel and dispatches assistance as required
• Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor
