Job summary

Wythe County Board of Supervisors is seeking an Emergency Telecommunicator II to dispatch law enforcement, fire, and EMS on a 24x7 basis. The role requires a high school diploma, state/local certifications, and at least two years of dispatcher experience.

The position is full-time and located at the County Administration Office in Wytheville, VA. Applicants must be able to work rotating shifts, pass background/drug screens, and maintain confidentiality while using CAD systems and radio consoles.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of two years as a certified dispatcher.
• Must pass background check and drug screening.
• Must be a United States citizen and resident of Wythe County.
• Holds current Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification.

Responsibilities

• Answer 911 and non-emergency calls, including Text-to-911 and TTY/TDD.
• Enter calls into CAD with correct nature code and maintain logs.
• Dispatch medical, fire, and law enforcement units promptly.
• Provide real-time updates to responding units and coordinate multi-agency responses.
• Remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations and during emergencies.
