Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a VCS Region Director to oversee operations across VA medical centers and clinics within a designated region. You will guide mission delivery, financial planning, and performance initiatives, aligning regional strategies with VHA goals and VCS priorities.

This role requires strong leadership, multi-site management experience, and the ability to collaborate with executive leadership to drive efficiency and service improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field; equivalent combination of education/experience.
• Minimum of five years of multi-unit management experience in food service or retail management.
• Operational knowledge of policies and programs within a structured retail or restaurant organization.
• Financial analysis of operating budgets and financial statements; identify trends and implement solutions.
• Experience planning and executing retail, food service, or vending programs across multiple locations.
• Strong leadership across multiple or remote locations and collaboration across teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (minimum two years).
• ServSafe certification required (or to be obtained within 90 days of hire).

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage budgets to achieve sales goals and financial sustainability.
• Analyze financial reports to identify trends and address operational challenges.
• Provide regional oversight for Human Resources activities including staffing and workforce planning.
• Support staffing strategies and workforce development across the region.
• Conduct site visits to assess operations and ensure policy compliance.
• Implement corrective actions to improve effectiveness.
• Train and develop Canteen Managers and evaluate performance.
• Lead recruitment for key positions including senior roles.
• Drive customer service improvements and uphold quality standards.
• Maintain partnerships with Medical Center leadership and VA officials.
• Communicate operational issues to executive leadership to ensure alignment.
• Oversee resource allocation, inventory control, and asset protection.
• Plan strategically to optimize workforce and program development.
• Lead marketing initiatives and deliver training for growth.
