Job summary

State of Georgia, Department of Human Services, seeks a Social Services Program Consultant 3 to serve as South Regional Adoption Coordinator. The role requires leading adoption-related work across Regions 6–12, with travel and reimbursement for work travel.

You will train staff, review cases, and coordinate recruitment for foster and adoptive families. Responsibilities include ICPC oversight, SHINES data accuracy, and collaboration with legal partners to expedite finalization of permanency

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of professional experience including one year in a lead role.
  • Alternatively, two years of experience at SSP/SSP041 or equivalent.
  • Must be able to travel across assigned counties; mileage and overnight stays reimbursed.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate clear and consistent communication at case-specific and policy levels within the unit and agency.
  • Offer case consultation and technical assistance interpreting policies, rules, and regulations under limited supervision.
  • Design and facilitate training sessions for county and regional DFCS staff and identify needs for professional development.
  • Conduct case reviews and staffing for adoption goal cases with written/verbal feedback to counties and regional offices.
  • Identify and eliminate obstacles delaying timely adoption outcomes for children in care.
  • Collaborate with public and private partners to expand recruitment for foster and adoptive families.
  • Act as a key contact for regional/county DFCS leadership and state adoption consultants.
  • Ensure accurate SHINES data entry for AFCARS reporting and provide system-related technical assistance.
  • Provide oversight and support for ICPC-related adoption cases.
  • Track completion of Child Life Histories, It’s My Turn Now GA registrations, and Adoption Evaluations in SHINES.
  • Coordinate targeted recruitment strategies for children awaiting adoptive placements.
  • Monitor case progress and permanency timelines toward finalization for adoptions.
  • Identify delays or barriers with staff and develop action plans to resolve them.
  • Track permanency benchmarks and ensure compliance with federal/state timeframes.
  • Promote urgency around permanency; minimize disruptions and drift.
  • Collaborate with legal partners to expedite TPR and finalization when appropriate.
  • Identify and address systemic or case-level obstacles delaying permanency.
  • Carry out other professional responsibilities to support adoption initiatives.
