Job summary

Bethany Christian Services seeks a Unit Supervisor to guide refugee and immigrant children toward family reunification, while supporting foster families who provide a home away from home. The role emphasizes safety, supervision of Youth Specialists, and adherence to best-care practices in classrooms and communal spaces.

The position requires bilingual English/Spanish, strong communication, and ability to manage scheduling and staff training, with compliance to federal, state, and agency

Qualifications

  • Must have one of: High School Diploma + 4 years in a child caring institution; or 2 years of college + 3 years in a child caring institution; or Bachelor’s + 2 years in a child caring institution.
  • Strong bilingual English/Spanish preferred for communication with families and staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to pass background/fingerprint checks and health screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular rounds to ensure safety and best care practices in all areas.

  • Hire, onboard, and train staff effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with agency policies and regulatory requirements.

As a Unit Supervisor, you’ll walk alongside refugee and immigrant children as they seek family reunification, older youth preparing for adulthood in a new country, and foster families who give these children a home away from home.

How Your Role Makes a Difference
  • Manage, direct, and lead Youth Specialist(s) and facilitate weekly meetings;
  • Provide weekly individual and team supervision to supervisory staff;
  • Provide regular, unannounced rounds in the classrooms and/or all areas where children congregate to ensure safety, wellbeing, and best practice of care in these areas;
  • Cultivate a positive, team centered work environment;
  • Participate in weekly staff and resident meetings;
  • Ensure compliance with agency policies and procedures for staff evaluations, conference/training requests, timekeeping, and reimbursement requests;
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the program’s operating manual;
  • Hire, on-board, and train staff effectively to ensure efficient operations;
  • Oversee scheduling and staffing to ensure adequate coverage at all times;
  • Stay abreast of all agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements for social services;
  • Essential job responsibilities may vary based on the specific needs of each program/department;
  • May be required or asked to participate in a Bethany sponsored event;
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
What Will Make You Successful
  • Must have one of the following: High School Diploma and four (4) years of work experience in a child caring institution or; Two (2) years of college from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of work experience in a child caring institution or; Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of work experience in a child caring institution;
  • Bilingual Spanish/English fluency, strongly preferred;
  • Successfully pass a federal fingerprint screening may be required;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a multi-disciplinary treatment team;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Must be able to pass required medical examinations and have the physical ability to fulfill the essential job functions, including physical restraints of a resident;
  • Successfully pass an annual TB test and document preference to receive or decline Hepatitis immunization;
  • Computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Must be 21 years old with a valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience in the U.S. to operate a vehicle on behalf of Bethany;
  • Must pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate insurance coverage;
  • Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
  • Exhibit integrity and good moral character to provide appropriate care;
  • Possess the relevant experience and/or qualifications to work with these clients and clients with special needs; and be properly trained and licensed, as necessary;
  • Must be able to show proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route:
  • TDap or Tdap: Complete primary vaccination series. If primary vaccination series completed in childhood, one Tdap dose in adulthood.
  • Results of medical examination (as required by State Licensing, including results of TB tests and immunization records).
  • Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith, Mission Statement, and Commitment to Unity.
