Job summary

Ascentria Care Alliance in Worcester, MA seeks an Employment Counselor to empower resettled refugees toward economic self-sufficiency. You will develop employment plans, conduct job searches, train clients in job-search skills, resumes and interviews, and build employer relationships to create opportunities.

This role supports the Services for New Americans team and provides post-placement services to aid retention and advancement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred; two years’ experience required.
• Valid Driver’s License with positive driving record and proof of automobile insurance is required to transport clients.
• Comfortable speaking with groups, working on collaborative teams and advocating for systems change as needed.
• Ability to effectively lead staff; delegation skills required.
• Ability to work sensitively and effectively in a multi-cultural/multi-lingual environment.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to rapidly changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Maintains relationships with current employers through frequent communication and coordination.
• Researches employment opportunities and trends; networks and develops relationships with potential employers; educates employers about benefits of hiring refugees.
• Provides pre-employment orientation and budgeting sessions for newly arrived clients; ensures understanding of program benefits and responsibilities.
• Coaches clients in job-search skills, resumes, and interview techniques; reinforces vocational English as needed.
• Provides placement and post-placement services including onboarding and follow-up for client retention.
• Completes and maintains client documentation and reports in accordance with contractual standards.
