Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor at SCI Albion to teach refrigeration and air conditioning trades in a structured classroom and hands-on setting. You will guide inmates through lessons, emphasize responsibility and teamwork, and shape their mastery of the trade.

The role involves supervising inmate crews, managing tools and materials, and documenting progress and attendance while enforcing discipline and curriculum standards.

Qualifications

• Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration or air conditioning systems; or
• Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the trade.

Responsibilities

• Trade Instruction: Teach refrigeration and air conditioning installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance.
• Crew Oversight: Direct inmate work crews, monitor work quality, and inspect completed assignments.
• Tool Management: Issue tools, track inventory, and conduct searches to ensure items remain accounted for.
• Material Planning: Determine needed supplies, submit purchase requests, and manage materials for projects.
• Documentation Duties: Maintain records of inmate progress, attendance, and project assignments.
• Classroom Management: Maintain order and apply instructional methods and curriculum to support skill development.
