Job summary

Alaska Marine Lines in Seattle is seeking a Refrigeration Mechanic to maintain and repair our refrigerated containers at the terminal. This is a Safety Sensitive position with overtime opportunities and a 40-hour work week.

Essential duties include diagnosing and repairing refrigeration systems, preventative maintenance, brazing/soldering, electrical troubleshooting, and software logging in fleet systems. Travel to Alaska may be required for training and assignments.

Qualifications

  • EPA certified type 2 or better for CFR required, Universal EPA preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Previous experience repairing Carrier or Star Cool refrigeration units a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to Alaska two or more times a year as required.
  • Own basic hand tools common to the trade and a electrical meter.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose & repair refrigerated container systems using specialized tools and meters as well as hand & power tools.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure reliability and calibration of units.
  • Perform brazing and soldering of copper and brass components in the refrigeration system using oxy/acetylene torch.
  • Diagnose and repair high and low voltage electrical circuits using wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Upload software and download information from the units’ microprocessor and for generating repair orders and parts inventory in fleet maintenance program.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of spare parts, materials, and tooling and requisition items as needed.
  • Learn and properly use the manufacturer’s service software with electronic equipment.
  • Record daily repairs in M&R maintenance software.
  • Own basic hand tools and be willing to acquire additional tooling as needed; meet forklift certification requirements.
