Job summary

Alaska Marine Lines is seeking a Refrigeration Mechanic to maintain and repair refrigerated containers at our Seattle terminal. This is a safety-sensitive role with a path to steady, 40-hour weeks and opportunities for overtime.

Compensation ranges from $38.15 to $59.01 per hour, depending on skills and experience, with comprehensive health benefits and a strong focus on employee stability and advancement.

Qualifications

  • EPA certified type 2 or better for CFR required, Universal EPA preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Previous experience repairing Carrier or Star Cool refrigeration units is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose & repair refrigerated container systems using specialized tools and meters.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure reliability and calibration of units.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical circuits using wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Upload software and generate repair orders and parts inventory in fleet maintenance program.
  • Record daily repairs in maintenance software.

Alaska Marine Lines is looking for a Refrigeration Mechanic to maintain and repair our refrigerated containers at our terminal in Seattle. This is a Safety Sensitive position.

Our Refrigeration Mechanics can make anywhere between $38.15 – $59.01 an hour (depending on skills and experience) and, work Monday – Friday with opportunities for overtime. We always have work to get done and can ensure you get 40 hours a week no matter the season.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.

  • Diagnose & repair refrigerated container systems using specialized tools and meters as well as hand & power tools.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to ensure reliability and calibration of units.
  • Perform brazing and soldering of both copper and brass components in the refrigeration system using oxy/acetylene torch.
  • Diagnose and repair both high and low voltage electrical circuits using wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Upload software and download information from the units’ microprocessor and for generating repair orders and parts inventory in fleet maintenance program.
  • Work with Shop Lead and Department Manager in maintaining adequate inventory of spare parts, materials, and tooling. Work with Purchasing Department in requisitioning items in the absence of Shop Lead and/or Department Manager.
  • Learn and properly use the manufacturer’s service software with electronic equipment.
  • Record daily repairs in M&R maintenance software.
  • Own basic hand tools common to the trade and specifically an electrical meter, and be willing and able to acquire additional tooling as the position requires. Must be able to properly use and maintain company supplied tooling
  • Able to meet forklift certification requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Alaska two or more times a year as required for varied lengths of time.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Use of a personal mobile device for essential work tasks such as multi-factor authentication (MFA), accessing Dayforce, and receiving time-sensitive communications.
