Job summary

Commercial Metals in Durant, OK seeks a hands-on team member to support production operations across our recycling, fabrication, and manufacturing facilities. You will troubleshoot daily issues, perform minor repairs, maintain a clean work area, and follow start-up, shutdown, and safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills for daily tasks and record-keeping.
  • Dependability in attendance and task completion.
  • Ability to learn quickly and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs as part of daily duties.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required.
  • Work well in a team with strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Comfort working around temperature extremes, chemicals, dust and noise.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate about production issues, concerns, and needs.
  • Perform minor maintenance or repairs without external help.
  • Maintain daily housekeeping in the work area.
  • Troubleshoot problems using job knowledge and teamwork.
  • Understand start-up, shutdown, and emergency procedures.
  • Follow safety rules and wear PPE as directed.
  • Support safe and timely operations under supervision.
  • Assist with brick lining and related material handling as needed.

What You'll Do
  • Effectively communicate with others about possible production issues, concerns, and needs
  • Perform minor/routine maintenance or repairs as needed without the assistance of maintenance personnel
  • Responsible for daily housekeeping duties including but not limited to immediate work area
  • Troubleshoot work related problems using job knowledge, experience, and by communicating with others
  • Understand start up, shutdown, and emergency procedures
  • Ensure the tasks and activities as directed by operations support management are carried out in a safe and timely manner
  • Work safely to prevent on the job injuries by always following safety rules and regulations including proper wearing of company PPE
  • Repair or replace fire brick lining of ladles, furnace tap holes, and spout
  • Cut bricks to size, as required and cut notches or holds to provide for smoke control tap holes, tap mountings, heating elements, etc
  • Use chalk lines, plumb bobs, tapes, squares, levels, etc to lay brick courses for building walls or bulkheads, arches, corners, roofs, electrode and smoke control pressure tap holes

  • Ability to work in environments with exposure to temperature extremes, chemicals, dust, fumes, mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, elevated work areas, and confined spaces
Your Education
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
