Job summary

Safety-Kleen in East Chicago, IN seeks a hands-on Refinery Engineer to provide engineering and technical support across Operations, Maintenance, Health and Safety, and Compliance. The role drives refinery safety, reliability, and environmental performance, and leads the Mechanical Integrity and MOC processes with capital project oversight.

The engineer will manage multiple small projects annually, including larger initiatives up to about $1 million, from scope through startup and closeout, while

Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, petroleum, or industrial engineering.
• 3–5+ years in refinery, chemical processing facility, or similar industrial setting; 5+ years preferred.
• Experience with Process Safety Management programs, MOC, PHA, and PSSR.
• Experience in Mechanical Integrity and equipment inspection programs.

Responsibilities

• Support Health and Safety, Compliance, and Operations with process safety improvements.
• Coordinate MOC processes, risk assessment, reviews, and approvals.
• Lead/coordinate Pre-Startup Safety Reviews for project changes.
• Oversee Mechanical Integrity program, inspections, and testing.
• Assist in capital project development, budgeting, and scheduling.
