Job summary

CITGO Petroleum Corporation invites a Chemical Engineer intern to join our Lemont, IL or Downers Grove, IL refinery teams for a paid 12-week summer internship. You will assist with feasibility studies, economic analyses, process design, and equipment evaluation under senior engineers.

The program emphasizes refinery safety, hands-on project work, and a final presentation detailing intern accomplishments. Eligible students should be enrolled in an Electrical Engineering bachelor’s program,

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• Enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering bachelor’s degree program; sophomore status.
• GPA 3.0 or above.
• 40 hours per week for full 12 week program.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; able to work in a team.
• TWIC eligibility as per MTSA requirements and guidance.

Responsibilities

• Generate discipline‑related work scopes and project documentation updates/reviews.
• Familiarize with CITGO engineering practices and training materials.
• Assist with updates to equipment reliability and integrity plans.
• Review existing engineering documentation for completeness and consistency.
• Coordinate site visits with senior engineers for project scoping/verification.
• Complete end-of-internship summary and presentation.
