CITGO Petroleum Corporation offers a paid 12-week Chemical Engineering internship in Illinois, where you will work on refinery projects under senior engineers. You will perform feasibility studies, economic analyses, process design, and equipment evaluation, while learning refinery safety practices.

The position is on-site in Lemont, IL or Downers Grove, IL, with a 40-hour work week and a final presentation.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering bachelor’s degree program.
• Must be at least a sophomore (completion of freshman year).
• Overall GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Availability to work 40 hours per week for the full 12-week program.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• TWIC eligibility as required by maritime security rules.

• Edit the engineering training manual and apply it to tasks.
• Assist with updating equipment reliability and integrity plans.

Job Summary

The Chemical Engineer intern will become familiar with the refinery organization and work processes while learning refinery safe work practices. The intern will work on various projects throughout the refinery under the direction of a more senior engineer. This position is a paid 12-week summer internship. A presentation covering all aspects of the internship experience and accomplishments will be expected at the end of the term. Interns will be responsible for assisting with or performing engineering duties which may include: feasibility studies, economic analysis of projects, process design, equipment specification, evaluation and selection of equipment and materials. Monitor and troubleshoot process unit performance. Find and implement ideas to improve the profitability of various process units. This position is located on-site in either Lemont, Illinois or Downers Grove, Illinois.

Pay Range: $27.14 - $36.19

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• Must be enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering Bachelor Degree program
  • Must be at least a sophomore status in college (completion of freshman year)
• Must have overall GPA of 3.0 or above
• Availability to work forty (40) hours per week for full 12 week program
• Must have valid driver's license
• Candidate must posess strong analytical and communication skills and be able to work in a a team environment
• Eligibility Requirements: The Maritime Transportation Security Act requires all persons who will need unescorted access to a regulated facility to have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), issued in accordance with rules established by the United States Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration. Job Duties

• Familiarize with CITGO Engineering practices by editing the engineering training manual and apply as necessary to perform assigned work tasks.
• Assist with the update / creation of equipment reliability and integrity plans.
• Review existing engineering documentation for completeness and consistency with current policies and procedures, including drawings and technical data. Complete update to documentation as necessary or assigned.
• Consult with Senior Project Engineers and Managers in the group, and complete site visits in support of ongoing engineering efforts. Site visits may include witnessing site activities and scoping / verification for projects.
• Consult with Managers and Senior Project Engineers in the group, and complete site visits in support of ongoing engineering efforts. Site visits may include witnessing site activities and scoping / verification for projects.
• Complete end of internship summary and presentation
