Job summary

Carolina Family Health Centers invites a Referrals Associate I to join the Wilson, NC team. This role arranges and tracks referrals requested by providers, ensuring timely appointments and proper authorization when needed.

The position reports to the Referrals Supervisor and offers a 40-hour workweek, full benefits, 12 paid holidays, and bi-weekly pay. Requirements include a High School diploma or GED or an Associate degree in Health Information Tech or Medical Office Admin, 1–5 years of similar

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or Associate degree in Health Information Technology or Medical Office Administration.
• Minimum one to five years of similar experience.
• Electronic Health Record system experience is required.
• Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Monitors the referral work queues daily for incoming referrals that need processing.
• Evaluates the patient’s insurance status, the details of the referral, and patient assistance program options to obtain appointments.
• Obtains insurance authorization for referral appointments through provider portals when necessary.
• Inputs referral requests into various systems.
• Communicates with medical and dental providers as needed.
• Documents activities and communications in the patient’s EHR.
• Communicates appointment details with the patient or guardian in writing, by phone or via portal.
• Accesses only data within the scope of training and duties.
• Performs other duties as assigned and complies with customer service standards.
• Adheres to CFHC compliance, quality improvement, risk management and conduct standards.
