Job summary

Prosser Memorial Health is seeking a referral coordinator to verify insurance benefits and obtain authorizations for outgoing specialist visits, procedures, and testing. You will manage referrals, coordinate appointments, communicate with patients, and register new patients, ensuring all information is captured electronically where possible.

You will monitor referrals for loop closure, confirm attendance, and ensure consultation notes are received or sent as required.

Qualifications

• Experience with insurance verification and referral authorization processes.
• Familiarity with CPT and ICD coding systems.
• Strong written and oral communication; ability to handle confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Check insurance benefits and obtain prior authorizations for referrals, visits, procedures, and testing.
• Ensure referrals are authorized and scheduled; monitor loop closure and notes flow.
• Coordinate appointments, communicate with patients, and register patients.
• Collaborate with other departments to obtain needed information in electronic format.
• Track whether patients attended and whether consultation notes were received or sent.

Job Summary:

Responsible for checking insurance benefits and obtaining prior authorizations for outgoing specialist visits, procedures, and testing. Ensuring all incoming referrals for office visits, procedures, and testing have been authorized and scheduled. Additionally, the referral coordinator’s responsibilities include appointment coordination, patient communication, and registering patients.Will work together with other departments and/or organizations to assure all necessary patient information is provided and/or obtained, and in electronic format whenever possible.Ensures all patient referrals are monitored for loop closure; determine patients attended appointments or not and consultation notes have been received or sent.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED.
• One-year medical experience with exposure to insurance verification or referral authorization fundamentals.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT & ICD codes.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.
• Ability to handle patient and organizational information in a confidential manner.
• Ability to work in an environment of continuous change.
• Ability to manage priorities and work under deadlines.

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay Range: $20.87- $30.91
