Job summary

Prosser Memorial Health is seeking a Referral Coordinator to check insurance benefits, obtain prior authorizations for outgoing specialist visits, procedures, and testing. You will ensure referrals are authorized, scheduled, and monitored, and you will coordinate appointments and register patients.

Collaborating with multiple departments, you will track loop closure, confirm patient attendance, and ensure consultation notes are received or sent.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• 1 year of medical experience with exposure to insurance verification or referral authorization fundamentals.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT & ICD codes.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral.
• Ability to handle confidential information.
• Ability to work under deadlines and manage priorities.

Responsibilities

• Check insurance benefits and obtain prior authorizations for outgoing specialist visits, procedures, and testing.
• Ensure all referrals for office visits, procedures, and testing are authorized and scheduled.
• Coordinate appointments, communicate with patients, and register patients.
• Collaborate with other departments to obtain necessary patient information in electronic format when possible.
• Monitor referrals for loop closure and confirm attendance and delivery of consultation notes.

Job Summary:

Responsible for checking insurance benefits and obtaining prior authorizations for outgoing specialist visits, procedures, and testing. Ensuring all incoming referrals for office visits, procedures, and testing have been authorized and scheduled. Additionally, the referral coordinator’s responsibilities include appointment coordination, patient communication, and registering patients. Will work together with other departments and/or organizations to assure all necessary patient information is provided and/or obtained, and in electronic format whenever possible. Ensures all patient referrals are monitored for loop closure; determine patients attended appointments or not and consultation notes have been received or sent.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or GED.

One-year medical experience with exposure to insurance verification or referral authorization fundamentals.

Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT & ICD codes.

Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.

Ability to handle patient and organizational information in a confidential manner.

Ability to work in an environment of continuous change.

Ability to manage priorities and work under deadlines.

Compensation & Benefits
