Job summary

The Portland Clinic in Portland, OR is seeking a Referral Coordinator to process referrals, assist registration and nursing staff, and provide clear instructions to employees, physicians, patients, and insurers. This is a 40-hour, non-exempt, Monday–Friday role in Access Services.

You will manage referrals through workqueues, verify benefits, enter data in the EHR promptly, participate in departmental meetings, and help the team meet monthly goals while maintaining courteous, professional

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience in managed care is preferred.
  • Excellent phone etiquette and communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask under pressure.

Responsibilities

JOB TITLE: Referral Coordinator

SUPERVISOR: Referrals Supervisor

HOURS PER WEEK: 40/Non-Exempt (Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm)

DEPARTMENT: Access Services

HIRING BONUS: $1,000 after 90 days

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To process referrals and to provide employees, physicians and patients with instructions/clarification as necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
  1. Answer phones, provide excellent customer service to patients, providers, insurance companies, and staff.*
  2. Assist registration and nursing staff in need of immediate support.*
  3. Process referrals and orders for all accepted insurance plans: monitor and track referrals through assigned workqueues, verify benefits, call in referrals to insurance companies, enter referrals in Electronic Health Record (EHR) in a timely manner, and produce denial letters.*
  4. Register patients where needed, including collecting and inputting patient billing information.
  5. Assist in orientation of new staff regarding referrals.
  6. Process and participate in referral department meetings, volunteering agenda items and taking minutes as necessary.*
  7. Attend on-site and off-site meetings as requested by supervisor.
  8. Meet all monthly department goals. *
  9. Participate as an active team member in a patient-centered medical home.
  10. Employees will not be discourteous or disrespectful to a customer or any member of the public while in the course and scope of company business.*
  11. Work in a cooperative manner with management/supervision, coworkers, customers and vendors.*
  12. Abide by company policies.*
  13. Maintain regular, in person, work attendance and punctuality, as scheduled.*
  14. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS PREFERRED:
  • Previous experience in managed care
