Job summary

The City of Springfield Library Department seeks a Reference Librarian to provide reference and resource information to the general public. The role includes assisting patrons in finding materials, supporting bibliographic initiatives, and participating in system-wide projects with guidance from a supervising Branch Manager.

Candidates should have an MLS, strong information provision knowledge, and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus MLS (ALA-accredited).
• 2+ years of library experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide reference and instructional services to the public, branches and regional libraries.
• Support bibliographic materials, web maintenance, and reader advisory projects across the system.
• Plan and deliver bibliographic instruction and programs for students and groups.
• Engage in special projects to improve library services and outreach.
• Keep up with library trends and train staff on best practices.
• Handle routine tasks such as payments, cash receipts, statistics, and shelving.
