Job summary

City of Springfield's Library Department is seeking a professional librarian to provide reference and instructional services to the public, schools, and branches. You will help patrons locate and use resources, maintain bibliographic aids, and support web development and system-wide operations.

The role requires a MLS from an ALA-accredited program, a bachelor's degree, and at least two years of library experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and MLIS from an ALA-accredited program.
• Two or more years of experience in a library environment.
• Strong knowledge of library reference services and information provision.

Responsibilities

• Provide reference and instructional services to the public, branches, and regional libraries.
• Assist in web maintenance and production of bibliographic aids.
• Participate in outreach, books by mail, instruction, collection development, and reader advisory.
• Plan and implement bibliographic instruction for students and community groups.
• Stay current with library trends; train staff on methods and practices.
• Perform routine duties such as taking payments, counting cash, maintaining statistics, reshelving.
