Job summary

Ela Area Public Library District in Lake Zurich, IL seeks a part-time Reference Associate Librarian for the Adult Reference Department. You will deliver friendly reference assistance at a dynamic service desk, using print resources, online databases, and internet tools.

The Ela Area Public Library, a five-star library in Lake Zurich, IL, is seeking an energetic, positive, service-oriented librarian to join our Adult Reference Department. The Part-Time Reference Associate Librarian will provide friendly, professional reference assistance at a dynamic service desk, using a wide range of print resources, online databases, and internet tools. The ideal candidate is dedicated to exceptional public service and community engagement.

Primary Position Responsibilities

• Provide non-fiction reference and readers’ advisory services at the Adult Reference Desk.
• Assist patrons with computers, printers, scanners, copiers, and other technology-related needs.
• Support patrons in the use of library databases and digital resources.
• Actively promote library services, collections, and programs.
• Manages study room, Digital Media Lab, and conference room reservations.
• Assist with opening and closing duties as needed.

Requirements

• Knowledge of basic reference resources and practices, including online sources and searching.
• Knowledge of technology applications related to public library reference services.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to speak, read, and write in more than one language a plus.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience. Three years’ customer service experience preferred. Previous experience working in a library environment is highly desirable. Current library school students are welcome to apply.

Work Schedule/Benefits:16 hours per week. Mondays 3 pm to 9 pm, Thursdays 3 pm – 9 pm. Schedule includes weekend shifts. Flexible availability required.
