Reference and Instruction Librarian: Southeast Louisiana University Sim Memorial Library

Southeastern Louisiana University’s Sims Memorial Library is accepting applications for a Reference and Instruction Librarian at the rank of Instructor. The successful candidate will be expected to provide formal and informal instruction in the use of print and electronic information sources (instruction includes teaching several sections of the one-credit Introduction to Information Research course and/or “one-shot” bibliographic instruction sessions); provide reference service (in-person and electronic transmission) to students, faculty, staff and the local community using print and electronic reference tools as well as other library resources and services; and perform other duties as assigned to support the service initiatives of the Department and the Library. The candidate might be scheduled to work night and weekend hours as needed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience of coursework in the use of electronic and traditional print reference tools and electronic resources.
• Strong public service ethic; ability to work in a wide-ranging environment.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two years of library reference experience.
• Experience in instruction at college or high school level.
• Experience with instructional (classroom) technology and with developing lessons.
