Job summary

Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement is seeking a Reentry Peer Mentor to provide non-clinical support and facilitate peer-led groups for justice‑involved individuals who have re-entered the community. The role includes responding to walk‑ins, maintaining the resource center, and assisting with resumes and ID acquisition.

You will work with the Clinical Director and staff, helping track member progress, support workplace development groups, and coordinate intake information while upholding

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Former justice involved individual and re-entry experience preferred.
  • Certification as a peer counselor/specialist or willingness to obtain.
  • Reentry peer mentor experience a plus.
  • Must be personable, reliable and a team player.

Responsibilities

  • Provide non-clinical support and facilitate peer-led groups.
  • Respond to walk-ins and maintain the resource center.
  • Assist with resume writing and obtaining ID.
  • Track member contacts and entry notes for the database.
  • Work with staff to ensure timely reporting to class and probation.

Hiring:

Key requirement is to be a former justice involved individual.

Reentry Peer Mentor is responsible for non‑clinical services and support groups provided by peers, volunteers and community mentors. They respond to walk‑ins, maintain the resource center, initiate informal referrals, informal supportive conversations, facilitate mutual self‑help groups, community outreach, field mentoring visits and telephonic support. The Peer Mentor is an individual who has successfully reentered the community and incentivizes current Members to complete their curriculum dosage. He is also respected by the re‑entry Members. He does this by being: 1) a constant reminder that someone who walked in a similar path as the Member can complete the evidence‑based program and successfully reenter the community; 2) someone respected by the Members who keep Members on track or if a Member is off track supportively corrects the Member without perceived negative judgement or lack of understanding; and 3) able to move freely in the community to check on Members and follow up if their curriculum attendance falters before it becomes an issue.

  • Leads groups such as workforce development, new member orientation, and Winner’s Circle (peer‑led, peer‑driven support group designed to address the special needs of justice involved individuals.)
  • Familiar with community.
  • Conduct initial Intake information for our Members
  • Assist walk‑ins from the community
  • Track Member contact by peer along with notes for database
  • Cross reference center and group attendance lists for database entry
  • Assist clients with resume writing and obtaining ID.
  • Works with Clinical Director and staff to keep track of Members and assist with timely reporting to class and probation
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Justice involved but has successfully re‑entered society for at least 1 yr post probation.
  • Certification as a peer counselor/specialist, training as a peer mentor or willing to do so
  • Experience as a Reentry Peer Mentor is a plus
  • Respected by the Reentry Members
  • Personable and a team player
  • Self motivated
  • Good accountability and follow through
  • Have their own transportation and valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass a background check to enter DOC is a plus
