Job summary

Habitat for Humanity Portland Region is seeking a Recycling Associate for East Portland to support store recycling operations, greet customers, and guide volunteers. The role emphasizes safety, efficiency, and community engagement across two Portland-area stores.

Training and materials handling are key aspects of daily work. The position offers 40 hours weekly, with a schedule that may include weekends, and provides a competitive hourly wage plus comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• One year of customer service experience.
• Attention to detail and a passion for reuse and recycling.
• Skilled at working in a team of staff and volunteers while following leadership directions.
• Attentiveness and desire to keep a clean, organized work environment.
• Time management including shifts, deadlines, and material flow.
• Knowledge of or ability to learn safe use of forklift, pallet jack, and dolly.
• Safety-first mindset and ability to model safe practices.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day recycling operations with store staff and volunteers.
• Greet the public and inspect materials meeting RecycleOn criteria.
• Guide volunteers to support daily recycling tasks.
• Process, inspect, and reduce contamination in recycling streams.
• Keep facilities and receiving areas clean and organized.
• Assist with donation processing and sorting waste vs recyclables.
• Load, unload and sort materials for transport as needed.
• Engage customers, donors, and community about Habitat’s mission.
