Job summary

The Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners seeks a Recycling Technician to collect, sort, and prepare recyclables for marketing, including OCC, newspaper, office paper, cans and plastics.

Responsibilities include operating bailers, forklifts, front-end loaders, and compactors; maintaining logs; and upholding safety standards in a general recycling facility.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Preferably 1 year experience in recyclable collection, preparation, and disposal.
  • Knowledge of solid waste/recycling principles and practices.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to receive the public with courtesy.

Job description

Summary

Responsible for the collection, sorting, preparation and processing of recyclable materials for marketing to include old corrugated cardboard, newspaper, office paper, steel and aluminum cans, and plastics.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Collection and disposal of solid waste and recyclables.
  • Preparation and processing of recyclable materials for marketing.
  • Operating equipment such as bailers, forklifts, front‑end loaders, and compactors.
  • Providing preventative maintenance as may be required for recycling equipment.
  • Maintaining equipment and vehicle logs.
  • Maintaining work areas in neat, orderly, and safe manner.
  • Following guidelines of worker safety as required.
  • Reporting and/or responding to accidents, unusual incidents, or public complaints as soon as feasibly possible.
  • Performance of other job related duties as assigned.
