Responsibilities

  • Lifts and loads refuse, trash, discarded equipment, and household items.
  • Reports equipment operational deficiencies for prompt repair/maintenance.
  • Performs minor adjustments to equipment within abilities as necessary.
  • Maintains regular attendance for scheduled shifts.

Job description

POSITION

Employees in this classification perform skilled work in the operation of commercial/residentialrefuse and recycling vehicles and equipment. An employee in this class is responsible for thesafe and efficient operation of equipment that requires specialized training. Assignments mayinvolve the completion of established routes as determined by management, or work orders forspecial collection activities. Work hours depending upon the type of collection activity mayrequire tasks basis work and involve various start times and shifts. Work is subject to inspectionfor efficiency, quality of operation, and adherence to departmental policies. Work is performedunderthe supervisionof theSolid WasteCrew LeaderorForeman.

  • Operatesrefuseandrecyclingcollectionequipmentsafelyandefficientlyinthecollectionofcontainersof refuse,garbage,trash,andor recycling material.
  • Providesservicetocommercialandresidentialcustomersasdirectedandaccordingtoestablished/assignedcollection route.
  • Liftsandloadsrefuse,trash, discardedequipment,andhouseholditems.
  • Reportsequipmentoperationaldeficienciesforpromptrepair/maintenance.
  • Performsminoradjustmentstoequipmentwithinthescopeof abilitiesasnecessary.
  • Requiresregularattendancetoscheduledworkshifts.

  • Substantialknowledge/skillintheprinciplesandmethodsofoperatingassignedequipment.
  • Abilitytodetermineaddresslocations.
  • Working knowledge of safety rules and requirements.

  • ConformswithandabidesbyalldepartmentalandCityregulations,policies,workprocedures,andinstructions.
  • Qualified to operate one ofthe following types of vehicles:
    1. Garbage or Recycling Side Loader*
    2. Commercial Garbage Front Loader*
    3. Bulk Trash Grappling Truck*

*Qualifications as determined by City Solid Waste Management and Public Works Director or designee.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

HighschooldiplomaorGEDequivalentwithdemonstratedsafedrivingrecord.MustholdaStateof Florida ClassBDriver’s LicensewithAirBrakeEndorsement.

PREFERRED

Six (6) months experience in the operation of residential/commercial refuse collection equipment.
