JOB TITLE: RECYCLING ATTENDANT (Part-Time)

SOLID WASTE DEPARTMENT

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB

The purpose of the job is to monitor and screen all recyclable materials delivered by residents to County recycling stations; to assist the public in placing materials in proper containers; to monitor container volume and maintain site appearance and safety. This class works according to set procedures under close supervision.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:
  • Monitors and screens all recyclable materials delivered by residents to County recycling stations.
  • Directs traffic at drop-off sites.
  • Assists the public in placing materials in proper containers; determines if waste is acceptable; sorts materials properly.
  • Monitors containers to ensure adequate space for continued disposal and calls in collection requests as needed.
  • Cleans around container area when driver has pulled loaded box out and before new empty box is put in place.
  • May be scheduled to help with special projects at the recycling centers or in the Municipal Recycling Facility helping to process E-waste and/or bail up cardboard.
  • Maintains convenience center and surrounding area in a clean, orderly manner; picks up trash and debris as necessary; cleans drop pans and hoses down areas to eliminate spills and odors.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of daily activities.
  • Answers the telephone; provides information and /or assistance to callers.
  • Cleans and maintains assigned equipment and tools.
  • Assists in training and supervising inmate workers as assigned.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with all County policies and procedures, standards of quality and safety, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Attends training, meetings, seminars, and/or workshops to enhance job knowledge and skills.

  • MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires doing simple, repetitive manual, clerical or operating tasks following a few definite procedures; requires minor short-term planning; requires little attention for accurate results.
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE PREPARATION
  • VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION: High school diploma or GED equivalent, specialized vocational training preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: None.
  • SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Must possess a valid state driver's license.
