Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX, is seeking qualified Medical Assistants (CMA/PCT/EMT/Paramedic) for PRN shifts in the Family Medicine Clinic. You will perform clerical and clinical duties under supervision, taking vital signs, assisting with exams, managing patient information, and supporting the care team in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.

Responsibilities

• Listen carefully to patient needs and communicate clearly with the health care team.
• Collaborate with the health care team to ensure patient needs are met and clinic operations are efficient.
• Assist nurse manager to ensure all team members meet service standards and department guidelines.
• Identify opportunities to improve performance and recognize excellence among team members.
• Take and record vital signs and assist with exams and procedures.
• Assist with referrals and patient education as per individual care plans.
• Manage medication refills and document in patient records.

Position Description

Employees in this classification provide patient care management toan assigned clinic in the areas of clerical and clinical duties. Inclinical setting, the employee receives direct supervision fromphysician or nursing supervisor in either oral or written form. Inoffice setting, the employee receives direct supervision fromdepartment administrator. Work is performed under usual office andclinic conditions. May be stressful when working under emergencyconditions. This position must supervised by a RegisteredNurse.

Major/Essential Functions

The Texas Tech Physicians Family Medicine Clinic is committed toproviding high quality medical care for individuals of all ages. Weare dedicated to providing an excellent training environment forFamily Medicine Physicians of today and the future. Our clinic is a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where the patient alwayscomes first.

This position in Family Medicine is for PRN shift work with familyfriendly hours. Family Medicine is looking for CMA's, PCT's, EMT'sand Paramedics to work with patients and perform the tasks listedbelow.

• Listening carefully to patient needs presented face to face orover the telephone and communicating clear and accurate informationin response to all members of the health care team
• Working collaboratively with other health care team members toensure patient needs are met and clinic operations areefficient
• Assisting nurse manager in ensuring all team members aremeeting service standards and following department guidelines
• Identifying needs for improvement and opportunities torecognize excellence in the performance of all team members
• Taking and recording accurate vital signs and measurements aswell as assisting with exams and procedures
• Participating in the identification of patients needs forreferrals as well as implementing teaching plans for patients andtheir families in accordance with individual care plans
• Managing refill requests and administering medications topatients following policies and procedures for medicationmanagement
• Assisting with managing patient information for the Texas Tech Physicians Family Medicine Clinic involving managing and trackingall forms, faxes and medical records including incoming andoutgoing correspondence.
• Responding to and follow up on all messages in the electronichealth record daily as well as releases of information asrequested.
• Promoting good communication and build positive relationshipswithin the Texas Tech Physicians system as well as externalcommunity clinics and clinicians.

Required Qualifications

Education: A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.License/Certification: Graduation from an approved certifiedprogram for assistants in the area of required specialty.Certification by an approved accredited certifying agency in thespecialty that particular work will be performed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual: Spanish Speaking.
• Academic clinic setting experience.
• EMR-Epic experience.
• General experience handling and managing medical records.
