ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Galt is recruiting for the temporary position of Recreation Worker II for Basketball Season.

Season runs through October 2026 - February 2027.

Flexibility is essential, as this position primarily requires availability on weeknights and weekends.

Weeknight Shift: Starting as early as 4:00 PM.

Weekend Shifts: Starting as early as 7:30 AM.

Under direct supervision, employees in this "at-will" classification perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the areas of recreation.

Recreation: Conducts or assists in the organization of community recreation programs, sports, and special events.

Depending on assignment, typical duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the operations of a community program and/or gymnasium facility.
  • Provide support services to department staff.
  • Interact and communicate with the public.
  • Promote a safe environment for both staff and patrons.
  • Perform a variety of office and computer tasks and other related duties as assigned.
  • Program areas include, but are not limited to sports, crafts, special events, day camps, concession cashiering and cleaning of facilities.
EXPERIENCE

Some experience in recreation work or directing group activities is highly desirable.

SPECIAL REQIREMENTS
  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years old at time of hire. Must obtain a work permit, if under the age of 18.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Depending on assignment, must possess strength, stamina and mobility to work indoors in an office setting/recreational facility or to perform required work out doors including: frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and walking on uneven surfaces; lifting up to 40 pounds with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; use of standard office equipment and/or recreation equipment including a computer and handheld devices; constant use of overall vision; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone and/or radio. May supervise children and be required to kneel, sit in low chairs, or sit on floor for prolonged periods. Must be willing to work out doors in all weather conditions with possible exposure to loud noise, traffic, and potentially hazardous conditions such as exposure to chemicals, fumes and other environmental substances.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Employees may work in the field and are occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and/or hot temperatures, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards. Incumbents may be exposed to blood and body fluids rendering First Aid and CPR are required to wear appropriate attire for the recreation activity to which they are assigned. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background investigation, including fingerprinting. May be required to work a varied schedule of hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays at a variety of City facilities. Work may be occasionally performed indoors. Basic cleaning of facilities may include exposure to cleaning agents.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Before beginning employment, candidates must successfully complete the pre-employment process. Depending on the classification, the pre-employment process may include reference checks, DOJ/FBI fingerprinting, a Personal History Statement (for specific classifications), a police records check (for specific classifications), and a medical examination, which may include a drug screening, physical examination, lift test, and/or hearing test. For Police Department candidates, the pre-employment process may also include a CVSA, background investigation, and psychological examination.
