Job summary

Southwest General in Middleburg Heights, OH, seeks a Recreation Therapist to deliver quality patient care and lead therapeutic activities.

You will develop treatment plans, document assessments, run group activities, and help patients build physical, social, emotional and cognitive skills, while tracking progress toward goals.

Requires BS in Therapeutic Recreation, internship with a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, and NCTRC certification within 6–12 months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation, or related field.
• Completion of an Internship under a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
• One year of work experience preferred in a behavioral health program.
• Obtain certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) within 6-12 months of employment.

Job description

The Recreation Therapist, within the scope of their license, must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide service appropriate to behavioral health age groups according to chronological age, developmental age, and/or psychosocial maturity. The primary function is to facilitate the development or maintenance of physical, social, emotional, cognitive and behavioral skills in the patient population served.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation,or a related field. Completion of an Internship under a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

Required length and type of experience:

One year of work experience preferred in a behavioral health program.

Required licensure, certification or registry:

Obtain certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) within 6-12 months of employment.
