Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, is hiring a Recreation Specialist to plan and oversee recreational activities for residents at Saleeby Center in Hartsville, SC. Under supervision, you will coordinate outings, provide direct care, and ensure safety while supporting daily living skills.

A high school diploma suffices, with a bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation or related field

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience.
• Bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation or a related field may substitute for work experience.
• Knowledge of various types of recreational activities and how to plan/oversee them.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement and oversee recreational activities and programs to meet residents' needs and abilities.
• Identify alternate programs and weekend schedules, including during hazardous weather or special circumstances.
• Coordinate on/off campus outings and transport residents to activities.
• Provide direct hands-on care and guidance to residents to develop activities of daily living skills.
• Ensure health and safety of residents and maintain supplies and equipment.
