Job summary

Dynamic Workforce Solutions is seeking a passionate Recreation Specialist for Dayton Job Corps, on-site in Dayton, Ohio. This full-time role pays $17.20 per hour and requires 2nd shift availability, weekends, and an active driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and implementing a comprehensive recreation program.
  • Organize and supervise student participation in recreation, arts, sports, and events.
  • Conduct recreation classes and specialty activities (drama, dance, music, clubs).
  • Assist with creative arts programming and generate new engagement ideas.
  • Coordinate new student recreation orientation and RAP programs.
  • Support wellness initiatives with the Wellness Manager.

Recreation Specialist

Full-time $17.20/hour - Bi-weekly pay - Full benefits package

Location: Dayton, Ohio

Schedule
  • 2nd Shift: 3:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
  • Weekends required
  • Must possess an active driver's license
About the Role

We are seeking an energetic, youth-focused Recreation Specialist to support the development, supervision, and engagement of students through a variety of recreational, creative arts, athletic, and enrichment programs. This role contributes directly to student well-being, positive campus culture, and meaningful participation in structured activities at Dayton Job Corps.

This position is well-suited for individuals with experience in:

  • Recreation program planning or activity coordination
  • Youth services, mentoring, coaching, or supervision
  • Arts, music, performance, or specialty recreation instruction
  • Sports, wellness, or fitness programming
  • Event coordination or club leadership
  • Working in residential, educational, or community-based youth environments

You will work closely with Recreation, Residential, Wellness, and other center departments to deliver engaging activities, model employability skills, ensure safety, and create a positive environment for young adults ages 16-24.

This is an on-site, student-facing role requiring strong communication, organization, creativity, and the ability to motivate and guide diverse learners.

What You'll Do
Recreation Programming & Student Engagement
  • Assist the Recreation Supervisor in planning and implementing a comprehensive recreation program with diverse activities.
  • Organize and supervise student participation in recreation, arts, sports, and social events.
  • Conduct recreation classes and specialty activities such as drama, dance, music, and club programs.
  • Assist with creative arts programming and contribute new ideas for student engagement.
  • Coordinate new student recreation orientation and RAP programs.
  • Support wellness initiatives, including weight-improvement programs in partnership with the Wellness Manager.
Student Supervision & Campus Culture
  • Chaperone students during off-center recreation activities.
  • Model and reinforce employability skills and positive behavior aligned with Career Success Standards (CSS).
  • Support the center’s positive normative culture through mentorship and consistent behavioral guidance.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed in all recreation environments, including water-based activities.
Operations, Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain responsibility for assigned center property and equipment.
  • Report violations of ethical behavior and support a culture of accountability.
  • Identify and report environmental, health, and safety concerns.
  • Recommend improvements to recreation programming and opportunities to reduce waste.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years of experience in recreation, physical education, or working with youth
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and water safety certifications
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to model CSS-aligned behavior and mentor students effectively
  • Computer proficiency
Minimum Eligibility
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • I-9 documentation verifying eligibility to work in the United States
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test and background check
