Job summary

The City of Santa Rosa is recruiting for a Recreation Coordinator in the Recreation Division of the Housing and Community Services Department. The successful candidate will assist in planning and operating recreation programs, events, and centers, while guiding part-time staff and volunteers to deliver excellent customer service to a diverse community.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to an associate degree from an accredited college and two years of increasingly responsible experience coordinating comprehensive recreational programs.
• Must possess a certification in American Red Cross CPR, Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor, Certified Pool Operator, First Aid, and AED.
• Must possess a Safe Food Handler and/or Safe Food Handler Manager certification to be maintained throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Plan, oversee, coordinate, review, and evaluate recreation programs, activities, and services; establish schedules and methods for providing community and recreation services; participate in the day-to-day operations of recreation programs and/or facilities; recommend improvements or modifications.
• Recruit, select, and coordinate hiring paperwork for part-time staff and volunteers to operate senior, adult, and youth recreation, sports, field trips, special events and related programs; provide supervision, training, orientation, and guidance to assigned staff; prepare weekly and daily schedules; provide documentation for performance feedback.
• Plan, coordinate, supervise, promote, and implement a variety of programs, including recreation activities, field trips, sports leagues, City-wide events, after-school programs, and related activities.
• Identify staff development and training needs; schedule meetings and training programs for staff; prepare agendas and meeting packets; monitor training to ensure staff are trained and certified.
• Coordinate recruitment of youth participants to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Develop publicity for events and programs; publicize activities through various media.
