Job summary

Job Summary

Loudoun County's Parks, Recreation and Community Services are actively recruiting experienced professionals for Recreation Programmer roles. As part of our team, you will play a pivotal role in establishing the new center as a vibrant community hub. This comprehensive position involves developing, implementing, and managing exceptional programs specifically designed to serve our valued community members. Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to conceive innovative solutions, particularly within the mobile recreation sector.

We are currently hiring for the following location(s):

• Loudoun Valley Community Center, Purcellville, VA.
• Douglass Community Center, Leesburg, VA.
• Sterling Community Center, Sterling, VA.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Design, implement, and manage diverse recreational programs tailored to the needs of our community, including youth, teens, adults, and seniors.
• Actively engage with community members to assess their needs and interests, ensuring the programs are inclusive and accessible, especially for underserved and hard-to-reach populations.
• Organize and oversee all aspects of special events, including creation, marketing, logistics, budgeting, permitting, staffing, etc.
• Develop and implement a marketing strategy to ensure high levels of participation in all recreation programs.
• Engage directly with community members to assess needs and ensure that programming is inclusive and accessible, with a particular focus on underserved and hard-to-reach populations.
• Supervise part-time instructors and/or seasonal camp staff, including responsibilities related to recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and training.
• Utilize various software systems, including recreation management software, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, RecTrac, and others, to deliver efficient program administration and excellent customer service.
• Perform other related duties as assigned, in alignment with departmental goals and operational needs.

Hiring salary commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or its equivalent is required and two (2) years of related work experience. Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of recreation programs for teens, adults, and seniors.
• Understanding of market analysis of the recreation industry, including surveys & trends
• Proficiency in childcare licensing regulations and interview procedures.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Jotform, Canva, Trello, and/or eager to learn department-specific software.
• Proficient verbal and written communication abilities are essential.
• Skilled in marketing and promoting programs.
• Managing large-scale events and conducting outreach activities in a community setting.
• Competence in data collection, maintaining program documentation, and preparing reports.
• Proficient in strategizing, executing, and assessing programs.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Must undergo criminal background, credit, and DMV checks. A valid driver's license and good driving record are required. For continued qualification, driving records may be reviewed annually. Within 30 days of hire, fingerprints and TB tests must be performed. A Child Protective Services (CPS) check is required; First Aid/CPR certification must be obtained within four months of hire or at the time of hire.

Work Schedule: This position requires availability to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs during all facility operating hours.
