The City of Grand Rapids seeks a Recreation Program Technical Supervisor for GR Outside & General Recreation to oversee nature-based programs, outdoor activities, and community outreach, coordinating staff, facilities, and program quality.
Minimum education includes two years of college coursework in recreation or related field (4-year degree preferred); at least two years of recreation leadership experience and a Michigan driver’s license are required.
Nature of Work This is supervisory, professional work in overseeing and coordinating recreation initiatives, outdoor programs, and community outreach for the GR Outside program. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor to provide program management supervision. Work includes planning, organizing, and directing nature-based experiences, outdoor skill-building, camping/backpacking trips, outdoor gear library distribution, community partnership operations focused on expanding nature access for youth (ages 24 and under) and schools across Grand Rapids, and other general recreation programs as assigned. Participates with the Recreation Supervisor to select, hire, and supervise non-permanent support staff, field instructors, and seasonal program staff.
