Job summary

The City of Gunnison Parks & Recreation Department is seeking enthusiastic Recreation Program Instructors to lead fun, safe, and engaging programs for participants of all ages and abilities. Instructors guide classes, practices, and activities across sports, fitness, arts, outdoor recreation, and youth programs while fostering a positive environment that supports learning and community connection.

This temporary, non-exempt position is ideal for individuals 15 and older who enjoy working with

Qualifications

• Ages 15 and older with previous experience participating and/or instructing/coaching program, workshop or activity.
• Certifications relevant to the program area (e.g., CPR/First Aid, coaching certifications) may be required or preferred.
• English language comprehension and communication skills, written and oral.

Responsibilities

• Lead structured classes, practices, workshops, or activity sessions per program goals and standards.
• Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, and feedback suited to participants' needs and skill levels.
• Adapt teaching methods for diverse ages, abilities, and learning styles.
• Foster a positive, inclusive atmosphere that supports participant growth and enjoyment.
• Inspect equipment and facilities and report hazards; ensure safety protocols are followed.
• Prepare lesson or practice plans and track attendance or progress when applicable.
• Communicate schedules, expectations, and updates with supervisors, participants, and families.
• Represent the organization with professionalism, enthusiasm, and integrity.
• Perform duties assigned by supervisor.
