This three-quarter time position is responsible for assisting with preschool programs: arts and crafts, games, sports, special events and leisure activities for kids aged 3-5.
Work hours/locations are subject to change, but will typically be Monday- Friday 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

- Assist in leading preschool activities such as arts and crafts, reading, block, science and other educational games
- Provide customer service to patrons of the Recreation Department.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness of facility.
- Perform emergency and rescue procedures.
- In charge of assisting with site operations.
- Fill out reports and file paperwork as needed.
- Open and close facility as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
- Age 19 or older with interest in preschool aged children.
- Current CPR and First Aid required within 3 months of hiring.
- Food Worker’s Card required within 6 weeks of hiring.
- Have written results of a current Mantoux TB skin test before starting work.
- Pass criminal background check performed by the Washington State Department of Early Learning and fingerprinting.
- Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be complete as re-quired by the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
Knowledge Of
- Knowledge of and ability to administer CPR, AED, and First Aid.
- Various teaching styles.
Ability To
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing clearly with students, patrons, coworkers and parents.
- Maintain professionalism, reliable, mature and courteous.
- Display a positive and energetic attitude.
- Learn and apply new skills.
- Adhere to expectations as outlined in employee package.
- Provide basic problem-solving skills.
- Walk up and down stairs.
- Use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects or equipment.

- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vi-sion, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus in order to maintain surveillance of students and employees.
- React efficiently and tactfully with the public and to be capable of enforcing regulations firmly and impartially.
- Communicate verbally and in writing, in person and via telephone, and across distances.
- Monitor the safety of children.
- Learn protocols associated with bodily fluids, including blood, vomit, and feces, associ-ated. This includes the ability to provide first aid and clean up bodily fluids.
- Obtain and maintain current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications.
- Recognize what needs to be done and the willingness to accomplish such work without direction on each task.
- Quickly comprehend and carry out verbal instructions.
- Communicate with customers and favorably represent the City to the public.
- Maintain clear, concise and accurate written records.
- Report on items that need attention.
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Read and record information accurately and follow both written and verbal directions.
- Ability to lift, move and handle minimum of 50 pounds.
- Ability to be aware of and adjust to changing surroundings.
- Accept responsibility to the health and welfare of the community by performing the responsibilities of the job in a manner that will provide efficient service to the public.
Working Conditions And Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in a busy recreation facility, with some outdoor work in parks.
- May be called upon for emergencies at times other than regularly scheduled hours.
- Responsibilities may include lifting heavy objects.
- Employee will utilize standard office equipment and a personal computer.
- Work may take place at various sites and locations.
- Exposure to bodily fluids including, but not limited to, blood, feces, urine and vomit.
- The noise level is moderate to loud.
Supervision Received
Directly responsible to Recreation Supervisors, Recreation Programmers, Recreation Coordinators, and Recreation Leader II’s.
Supervision Exercised
None.
Continuing Education
Attend all required trainings, including maintaining current First Aid and CPR certifications, completing 30 hours STARS Basic Licensing Guidebook Training or meet the education exemption as outlined by the Washington State Association for the Education of Young Children (within 6 months of hire).
Compensation
Hourly wage range: $18.15 - $22.31
