General Job Description

The Recreation Gymnastics Specialist is responsible for programming, coordinating, and leading recreational gymnastics classes for a variety of ability levels; to coordinate various special events; and to perform administrative and professional work in directing and leading recreation activities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan, direct, organize, lead and/or instruct, as well as supervise and assist as directed with other programs for the City of Cheyenne.
  • Provide input on policies and procedures for assigned activities.
  • Coordinate and schedule all recreational programs within the Cheyenne Gymnastics Facility.
  • Ensure the safety of participants by monitoring and remedying all unsafe conditions, respond to emergency situations and maintain accident and incident reports.
  • Motivate gymnastic participants to perform gymnastic moves in a correct and safe manner.
  • Assist in the selection of gymnastics coaches; and provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
  • Effectively engages prospective families through both in-person tours and engage in community events to drive awareness and enrollments.
  • Assist in develop and implement a curriculum for daily activity schedules including organizing appropriate staff supervision as well as changing and adjusting schedules as needed.
  • Communicate concisely in writing, and verbally and professionally in the presence of community members and in potentially escalating situations which may include participants and/or their guardians.
  • Transfer and set up a variety of light to heavy supplies and equipment in support of assigned activity.
  • Aid and input with overall facility maintenance, operation, and control.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the facility.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of records, files, and reports.
  • Plan and organize annual events: in-house events for recreational participants.
  • Ensure recreational programs within the Cheyenne Gymnastics facility are staffed with high performing coaches by developing trainings. Trainings may include, but are not limited to one-on-one coaching, leading team meetings, lesson plans, and behavior modification strategies and techniques.
  • Effectively manage high levels of liability, including but not limited to; handling physically aggressive children, physically touching children by assisting with gymnastics movements, the inherent risks of gymnastics, and daily interactions with the public.
  • Operate a variety of communications and office equipment including a multi-line telephone, copiers, and computers; input and retrieve data and text.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of gymnastics movements, spotting, techniques, and terminology.
  • Knowledge of sports rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of supervision and training principles.
  • Knowledge of coaching principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of City-wide recreation program.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Skill to operate a variety of office equipment.
  • Skills to adapt to change and problem solve.
  • Skills to work personably with the public and other professionals in times of conflict or crisis.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to interpret and explain City policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong ability to motivate and manage children with and without developmental and/or behavioral concerns. Ability to organize and supervise participants in a safe environment.
Qualifications for the Job

Required:

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. The employee is also required to maintain physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time and lifting to 50 pounds. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

Working Environment

Work closely with others in an office environment, mostly indoor environment; irregular working hours including nights and weekends, and inclement weather. Must be able to stand for at least 4 hours consecutively and sit on the floor. Transfer and set up a variety of light to heavy supplies and equipment to support assigned activity.
