Job summary

Colorado Psychiatric is seeking an Assistant Gymnastics Coach to support delivery of recreational gymnastics programs in a public recreation setting. You will help with instruction, supervision, equipment setup, and safety to foster skill development and enjoyment.

Responsibilities include teaching basic skills, supervising participants, organizing gear, and assisting with administrative tasks. A positive, inclusive approach and strong safety mindset are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Experience in gymnastics, tumbling, dance, cheer, or youth sports coaching preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic gymnastics skills, progressions, spotting concepts, safety and instruction methods preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, preparing, and leading age-appropriate recreational gymnastics classes, camps, clinics, open gym sessions, and special events.
  • Teach basic gymnastics skills, progressions, terminology, conditioning, stretching, and proper technique.
  • Provide active supervision and spotting to promote participant safety.
  • Set up and inspect mats, apparatus, and equipment; report hazards promptly.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive learning environment for participants of varying ages and abilities.
  • Monitor behavior, enforce safety rules, and respond to injuries or emergencies.
  • Communicate with participants, parents/guardians, and supervisors about progress and needs.
  • Assist with attendance, rosters, incident reports, and basic admin tasks.
  • Follow all policies, safety guidelines, and risk management procedures.

Job description

POSITION PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Gymnastics Coordinator, Head Coach, or Recreation Supervisor, the Assistant Gymnastics Coach supports the safe, positive, and effective delivery of recreational gymnastics classes, camps, open gym programs, and special events. This position assists with skill instruction, participant supervision, equipment setup, safety monitoring, customer service, and program operations to help participants develop gymnastics fundamentals, confidence, coordination, and enjoyment in a public recreation setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with planning, preparing, and leading age-appropriate recreational gymnastics classes, camps, clinics, open gym sessions, and special events.
  • Teach and demonstrate basic gymnastics skills, progressions, terminology, conditioning, stretching, and proper technique in accordance with program standards and participant skill levels.
  • Provide active supervision and spotting assistance to promote participant safety and support proper movement execution.
  • Set up, inspect, adjust, and put away gymnastics mats, apparatus, and related equipment before and after activities; report equipment concerns or facility hazards promptly.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment for participants of varying ages, abilities, and experience levels.
  • Monitor participant behavior, enforce program rules and safety expectations, and respond appropriately to injuries, incidents, or emergencies.
  • Communicate professionally with participants, parents/guardians, co-workers, and supervisors regarding program information, participant progress, concerns, and customer service needs.
  • Assist with attendance, class rosters, incident reports, cleaning tasks, and other basic administrative or operational duties as assigned.
  • Follow all recreation center policies, child safety expectations, risk management procedures, and applicable health and safety guidelines.
Job Qualifications
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Previous gymnastics, tumbling, dance, cheer, youth sports, recreation, or coaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic gymnastics skills, progressions, spotting concepts, safety practices, and age-appropriate instruction methods preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with children, parents/guardians, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to maintain participant safety, manage groups of children, follow directions, and exercise sound judgment in a busy recreation environment.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and team-oriented program culture.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including afternoons, evenings, weekends, school breaks, camps, and special events.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification preferred or required within 90 days of hire.
Education and Experience

No specific degree is required. A combination of relevant gymnastics, recreation, coaching, youth programming, or customer service experience may be considered. Additional gymnastics safety, coaching, or youth development training is desirable.

Work Environment

Physical Activities: This position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, climb, balance, demonstrate basic movements, spot participants, and move quickly in response to participant needs. The employee may frequently lift, carry, push, or pull mats and equipment and may occasionally lift or assist participants consistent with safety practices and organizational guidelines. Vision, hearing, and verbal communication are required to monitor participants and respond to safety concerns.

Work is primarily performed in an indoor public recreation center, gymnastics room, multipurpose room, or similar program space. The environment may include moderate to high noise levels, frequent interaction with children and the public, moving equipment, padded surfaces, and shared-use facilities. Work may occasionally include camps, events, or activities in other recreation areas or outdoor spaces.
