Job summary

The City of Pasadena is seeking a Recreation Specialist III to lead daily operations and supervise staff in the absence of the Recreation Manager. You will coordinate after‑school and summer camp programs, plan adaptive sports activities, and ensure safety and participant success.

You will also assist with transportation, family communication, and promotional materials while maintaining required licenses and coordinating with the Parks & Recreation Department. Evening/weekend shifts are possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four‑year college or university.
• Minimum of three (3) years of related experience, including at least one (1) year in a lead or supervisory role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Texas Class B CDL with Passenger Endorsement or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certifications, or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• CTRS Certification.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, registration software, email platforms, and Excel data entry.
• Ability to create, format, and submit professional written documents, reports, correspondence, and promotional materials.
• May require lifting, bending, walking, running and other physical activities required for program support.
• Preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

• Act as acting Center Manager in the absence of Recreation Manager.
• Lead and oversee daily operations and address staff and participant issues.
• Assist in planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating recreational activities for children and adults with disabilities.
• Develop lesson plans and oversee daily program operations to ensure safety and engagement.
• Coordinate and oversee the After‑School Program including scheduling, transportation, staff assignments, and family communications.
• Support adaptive sports programs, events, and tournaments and participate in wheelchair sports.
• Assist with participant registration, attendance tracking, and program communications.
• Safely transport participants and staff using City vehicles and secure passengers and wheelchairs.
• Assist with marketing materials for Parks & Recreation and Verne Cox Multipurpose Center.
• Work evenings and weekends as needed; manage equipment and supply inventories.
• Direct and oversee summer camp programming and post‑camp evaluation.
• Maintain licenses, certifications, and related requirements; comply with timekeeping policies.
