Job summary

The City of Garland is seeking a part-time Recreation Assistant to support center programs and services for all visitors. You will assist with information, registrations, and event setup while providing friendly customer service.

Shifts are nights and weekends, with 10–20 hours per week. Candidates should be at least 16 years old and able to work independently in a busy public environment.

Qualifications

• Education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
• Age - 16 years and up
• Basic knowledge of recreation activities and ability to communicate that knowledge
• Basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR procedures
• Basic knowledge of supervision procedures for activities and events
• Basic knowledge of recreational equipment and correct operation
• Basic skills in operating office equipment and computers
• Ability to work independently of the supervisor

Responsibilities

• Provide information to the public regarding recreation center activities; register participants for classes and activities.
• Assist the public via phone or walk-up to give information regarding programs, schedules and other related information.
• Perform custodial and customer service to keep the Recreation Center clean, orderly and properly set up for events and activities.
• Assist in inventory control of equipment and supplies.
• Supervise recreation activities and events.
• Enforce and maintain City and Department policies as needed including interpreting and relating department rules and policies to customers.
