Apple Rehab Saybrook is seeking a Therapeutic Recreation Assistant for our 100-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation community in Old Saybrook, CT. This per diem role supports the Director of Therapeutic Recreations in designing and delivering engaging recreation programs to residents.

Responsibilities include developing activities across resident abilities, coordinating with staff, and ensuring a respectful, safe environment.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.
• Experience in rehabilitative or geriatric settings preferred.
• Ability to rotate weekend coverage for recreation activities.

Job Opportunity: Therapeutic Recreation Assistant

Schedule: Per Diem

Responsibilities: Working the Director of Therapeutic Recreations, the Therapeutic Recreation Assistant assists in the development and execution of therapeutic recreational services to all residents with supervision in accordance with federal, state and local standards. Helps ensure the highest quality recreation program is provided.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assists in the development of a full range of therapeutic recreational programs and activities for all residents with appropriate concern for residents’ physical and emotional limitations, and individual interests.
• Ensures observance of religious days, social events, national holidays and traditional celebrations when planning residents’ calendar of events. Utilizes community support in establishing volunteer programs and intergenerational events.
• Encourages resident participation in therapeutic recreational activities. Carries out activities appropriate to resident’s level of functioning.
• Knows and complies with the Residents’ Bill of Rights. Through Resident Council, advises and instructs the residents on issues and changes pertaining to Residents Bill of Rights and their responsibilities.
• Maintains confidentiality and privacy in reporting of Resident Council minutes and care plan issues.
• Reports immediately to the supervisor all resident grievances and complaints.
• Fosters feeling of self-worth and respect by treating residents with kindness and understanding.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must have a vehicle and a valid drivers’ license and a safe driving record.
• Ability to provide rotating weekend coverage of recreation activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Possess at least one year experience in rehabilitative or geriatric setting.
• Must meet requirements of Therapeutic Recreation Assistant as stated in the Public Health Code.
