Apple Rehab Colchester is seeking a Recreation Assistant to help develop and supervise therapeutic recreational activities for residents, under the direction of the Therapeutic Recreation Director. You will support a wide range of programs designed to meet physical and emotional needs of residents.

The role emphasizes observing residents, coordinating with staff, and promoting well-being through engaging activities, with weekend rotation and a focus on geriatrics.

Qualifications

• Must have a vehicle and a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
• Ability to provide rotating weekend coverage of recreation activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development and execution of therapeutic recreational services for residents.
• Plan and oversee a full range of activities in line with residents' abilities and interests.
• Coordinate with staff to ensure activities respect religious days, holidays and celebrations.
• Support Residents' Bill of Rights and report concerns to supervisors.
• Foster resident dignity, self-worth and engagement through programs.

Job Description

Together with the Therapeutic Recreation Director, the Recreation Assistant assists in the development and execution of therapeutic recreational services to all residents with supervision in accordance with federal, state and local standards. Helps ensure the highest quality recreation program is provided.

The Recreation Assistant assists in the development of a full range of therapeutic recreational programs and activities for all residents with appropriate concern for residents’ physical and emotional limitations, and individual interests. Ensures observance of religious days, social events, national holidays and traditional celebrations when planning residents’ calendar of events. Utilizes community support in establishing volunteer programs and intergenerational events. Encourages resident participation in therapeutic recreational activities. Carries out activities appropriate to resident’s level of functioning.

The Recreation Assistant knows and complies with the Residents’ Bill of Rights. Through Resident Council, advises and instructs the residents on issues and changes pertaining to Residents Bill of Rights and their responsibilities. Maintains confidentiality and privacy in reporting of Resident Council minutes and care plan issues. Reports immediately to supervisor all resident grievances and complaints. Fosters feeling of self-worth and respect by treating residents with kindness and understanding.

Minimum Requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Possess at least one year experience in rehabilitative or geriatric setting.
