Job summary

Apple Rehab Saybrook, a 100-bed skilled nursing and rehabilitation community in Old Saybrook, CT, is seeking a Therapeutic Recreation Assistant on a per diem schedule. You will support development and execution of therapeutic recreational services for residents and collaborate with the Director under federal, state, and local standards.

The role requires a valid driver's license and the ability to rotate weekend coverage. Prior experience in rehabilitative or geriatric settings is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have a vehicle, valid driver's license, and safe driving record.
• Ability to provide rotating weekend coverage of recreation activities.
• At least one year experience in rehabilitative or geriatric settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development and execution of therapeutic recreational services for all residents.
• Develop a full range of therapeutic recreational programs respecting residents' physical and emotional limitations.
• Plan events honoring religious days, holidays, and traditions while planning the calendar of events.
• Encourage resident participation in activities suited to residents' functioning.
• Explain Residents' Bill of Rights and communicate changes to residents and their rights.
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy in reporting of Resident Council minutes and care plan issues.
• Report immediately to the supervisor any resident grievances and complaints.
• Foster a sense of self-worth and respect by treating residents with kindness and understanding.
