The City of Coronado is seeking a Recreation Assistant to support front desk and daily operations across multiple divisions. The role may be Seasonal (up to 40 hours/week, not to exceed 89 days) or Temporary (not to exceed 29 hours/week or 1,000 hours/year).
Based at the Coronado Community Center, Spreckels Center, or other sites, you will assist with program registrations, event setup, and customer information, while helping with youth and adult programs and inclusive activities.
The Organization

The working hours are varied and flexible; employment may be either designated as Seasonal (up to 40 hours per week, not to exceed 89 days) or Temporary (not to exceed 29 hours per week or 1,000 hours per fiscal year).
The Recreation Assistant title is the entry level classification for the part‑time position series. Assistants support customer facing activities such as front desk, programs and event staff. Assistants are supervised by Recreation Leaders, Recreation Specialists, Recreation Coordinators, and Recreation Supervisors.
Employee would be based out of the Coronado Community Center or John D. Spreckels Center and would provide phone and in‑person customer service, register patrons for programs, and provide general information. This position may also include preparing event spaces for usage and maintenance of the center.
Employee would be based out of the Community Center, Club Room, or outdoor spaces. This position may assist, develop and lead recreation activities for youth including, after school, preschool, teen activities and camps.
Employee would be based out of the Community Center or John D. Spreckels Center and would work with adults and seniors, providing customer service to patrons utilizing the center and may assist, develop, and lead recreation programs.
Employee may be based at multiple locations assisting patrons with disabilities with activities.
Employee would be based out of the Community Center, John D. Spreckels Center, or Club Room to set up, take down, and be a staff liaison during rental events.
Employee would be based out of the Coronado Golf Course and would work mainly in the field overseeing events, user groups, and programs in Coronado's parks and beaches.
Employee would provide support to youth and adult sport leagues and activities.

Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Designated positions require the possession, or ability to obtain, a Class B or C driver's license with a safe driving record. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid first aid certificate. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid CPR certificate.

Incumbents must perform work in an efficient, effective and timely manner with minimal direction.
Incumbents are required to participate in assigned community center tasks which may include moderate to heavy lifting; standing, walking or running for prolonged periods of time; stooping, kneeling, and crawling; operate motorized vehicles and equipment.
Vision sufficient to read printed documents, observe behavior of community center participants, and operate assigned equipment.
Incumbents may be exposed to inclement weather conditions, may work at indoor or outdoor recreational facilities, and may travel from site to site.
Incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends.
Part‑time, Temporary, and Seasonal (PTS) Employees who work for 30 or more days within a year, will accrue paid sick leave in compliance with the Healthy Workplace, Healthy Families Act of 2014. Leave will accrue at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked beginning on the first day of employment. Sick leave may be used after the 90th day of employment and up to 40 hours in one year.
