Qualifications

• Must meet Therapeutic Recreation Director requirements per Public Health Code.
• Minimum of one year experience in rehabilitative or geriatric setting.
• Must have a vehicle and a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

Responsibilities

• Plan, control and execute therapeutic recreational services for all residents.
• Develop a full range of therapeutic recreational programs and activities considering residents' physical and emotional needs and interests.
• Ensure observance of religious days, holidays and celebrations when planning events.
• Utilize community support to establish volunteer programs and intergenerational events.
• Encourage resident participation and tailor activities to residents’ functioning levels.

Job Description:

The Therapeutic Recreation Director plans, controls and executes the provision of therapeutic recreational services to all residents in accordance with federal, state and local standards. Ensures the highest quality recreation program is provided.

The preferred candidate will possess the following attributes: attention to detail, good follow through skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Excellent leadership and supervisory skills, patience, tact, enthusiasm as well as a positive attitude toward the residents and their support networks. Must be innovative and able to find creative ways to service the variety of resident needs and maintain the customer focus.

The Therapeutic Recreation Director assists in the development of a full range of therapeutic recreational programs and activities for all residents with appropriate concern for residents’ physical and emotional limitations, and individual interests. Ensures observance of religious days, social events, national holidays and traditional celebrations when planning residents’ calendar of events. Utilizes community support in establishing volunteer programs and intergenerational events. Encourages resident participation in therapeutic recreational activities. Carries out activities appropriate to resident’s level of functioning.

The Therapeutic Recreation Director knows and complies with the Residents’ Bill of Rights. Through Resident Council, advises and instructs the residents on issues and changes pertaining to Residents Bill of Rights and their responsibilities. Maintains confidentiality and privacy in reporting of Resident Council minutes and care plan issues. Reports immediately to supervisor all resident grievances and complaints.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must meet requirements of Therapeutic Recreation Director as stated in the Public Health Code.

• Must possess at least one year experience in rehabilitative or geriatric setting.

• Must have a vehicle and a valid drivers’ license and a safe driving record.
