Job description

About the unit

We are able to provide care for long term care residents and post-acute rehab patients. Nurse-patient ratios vary depending on the shift and the population you will be serving. Each designated unit focuses on patient specialties, such as general rehab, neuro rehab, traumatic brain injuries and cancer. Cedar Street offers various programs for residents to participate in including music therapy, expressive arts and a garden room.

About Rehab and Nursing Center Cedar

The Rehabilitation & Nursing Center – Cedar was designed with the word “home” in mind. The home is more spacious than the previous 52-year-old Fuller Street facility and boasts many new amenities, including four spacious interior courtyards; a new dining room; on-site dialysis den; art room, private and semiprivate rooms with their own window, restroom and shower; modern furnishings; and new technology, to make these community members feel at home.

Scope of work

The responsibilities of this position include planning, implementing/conducting and evaluating appropriate activity opportunities for patients. This role supports the health care team in promoting therapeutic services and/or programs. This role is also involved in conducting/implementing community and hospital based programs or special events as designated.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • LIC-Driver's License - State of Michigan 60 days required

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association Continuing Care 60 Days Or

  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross Continuing Care 60 Days

Preferred

  • Associate's Degree child life, child development, child psychology, early childhood education, recreational therapy or related degree

  • 1 year of relevant experience working with the appropriate population served (geriatric, TBI, children, teenagers, or volunteers) and in the appropriate setting (long term care, children's hospital) - Based on Spectrum Health entity and department as appropriate

  • 1 year of relevant experience program planning and development

  • Familiarity with music, crafts, exercise and group leadership- Based on Spectrum Health entity and department as appropriate

  • CRT-Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, Certified (CTRS) - NCTRC National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification Upon Hire preferred
