Job description

This is a full-time, union position with benefits and time off, upon meeting eligibility requirements. Employees start out at pay range Level 1 and progress through seven pay range levels.

Purpose:Develops, coordinates, schedules, implements, supervises, and evaluates a variety of recreational programs, activities and special events to include aquatics and fitness programs. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Work schedule will be flexible and include nights, weekends and holidays, as needed. An employee in this position must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and must maintain a professional demeanor in dealing with coworkers, supervisors and the public.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists with recruitment, hiring, scheduling/training of volunteers, part-time and seasonal staff in accordance with the City of Twinsburg Employee Handbook.
  • Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates recreational, aquatic and fitness activities for all age groups across the department and facilities.
  • Establishes and maintains training, insurance and certification recordsfor staff, independent contractors and volunteers related to the programs overseen.
  • Works in cooperation with the Parks and Recreation Director(s), to develop and recommend staffing, facility and programming policies and fee structures while working towards cost recovery objectives.
  • Composes promotional materials; manages weekly announcements systems outlining events.
  • Participates in activities to secure funds from individuals and outside agencies via fundraising, sponsorships, grants, and other means to assist in the operation of programming.
  • Maintains inventory, attendance, and program records; supervises or handles revenue; orders supplies and equipment; supervises expenditures; prepares budgets; assists in departmental planning and research as necessary.
  • Meets with groups or the public to discuss programs; serves to other community and governmental groups.
  • Composes operation manuals, brochures, and reports.
  • Assists with management of the department facilities in the absence of manager/director. This may include the reception desk, lifeguarding and fieldhouse based on staff availability.
  • Perform routine office functions (i.e. assist in answering phones, scheduling facilities, program participant registration. etc.).
  • Responsible for the recruitment and coordination of independent contractors related to programming.
  • Prepares financial, activity, attendance, maintenance and other reports related to programs, operations, special events and summer camps.
  • Regular, punctual attendance is required.
  • Interacts with users to encourage maximum proper use of all department facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws for seasonal and part time staff. Responsibilities include interviewing, recommending, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Associate’s Degree from a two-year (2) college or technical school or higher education preferred and two (2) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software including Word, Excel, as well as have the ability to learn and utilize recreational software applications.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain and keep currentLifeguard,First Aid, LGI Lifeguard Instructor, Babysitting Training Instructor, and CPR/AED certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to recognize potentially unsafe conditions and behaviors and correct them in a positive and appropriate manner.
  • Ability to react and respond correctly and swiftly to emergency situations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both in writing and orally.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
  • Majority of work environment will consist of normal office conditions however, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste and smell. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
