Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is seeking a part-time Recovery Support Specialist to join the Mobile Crisis Unit. The role provides crisis intervention and recovery support to clients in their community, including overnight shifts.

The position requires at least one year in human services, a High School diploma, and a valid driver’s license. Experience with CADC or Recovery Specialist certification preferred, bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • CADC certification preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience in human services required.
  • Certified Recovery Support Specialist certification required or to be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Lived mental health or substance abuse experience required.
  • Bilingual Spanish and English preferred.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to clients in mental health or substance use crisis by phone or in person.
  • Provide shift coverage in Mobile Crisis and manage a caseload of community-based clients.
  • Engage with clients, provide relapse education, and support recovery goals by call or in person.
  • Serve as a mentor and provide ongoing client support.
  • Help clients access services and supports to achieve personal recovery goals.
  • Maintain professional conduct with clients, families, and partners.

Position

Recovery Support Specialist – part‑time. Responsible for providing recovery support and crisis intervention to clients living in the community as a member of the Mobile Crisis Unit. Community based and Overnight Shift.

Schedule

Two days – Wednesday & Friday.

Essential Functions
  • Respond to clients experiencing a mental health crisis or substance use crisis via telephone or in person.
  • Provide shift coverage in Mobile Crisis and maintain a case load of community‑based clients.
  • Engage, provide relapse education, and support clients in their recovery journey via telephone or in person.
  • Serve as a mentor to clients and provide ongoing support.
  • Partner with clients to access services and supports that will help individuals attain personal recovery goals.
  • Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations and/or individuals in a dignified, respectful, honest and fair manner.
Position Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • CADC (Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor) certification preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in the human service or social serviced required.
  • Certified Recovery Support Specialist certification required, or to be obtained within one year of date of hire.
  • Lived mental health or substance abuse experience required.
  • Bilingual, Spanish and English, preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent organization, presentation and pc/computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) along with other related software.
  • Background check clearance required.
  • Valid driver’s license, in good standing for the state of residency required.
  • Access to reliable transportation required.
