Heritage Behavioral Health Center in Decatur, Illinois is seeking a Recovery Support Specialist to serve adults using lived recovery experience to provide hope, guidance, and practical support across community settings.

This community-based role empowers clients to define goals, build resilience, and strengthen connections to natural supports in homes, social services, healthcare settings, and beyond, aligning with SAMHSA’s principles of hope and person-driven care.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and active listening to support individuals.
• Familiarity with peer support ethics and trauma-informed care.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting, supportive relationships with individuals based on shared lived experience.
• Provide peer mentoring and recovery coaching to help clients identify strengths and goals.
• Promote SAMHSA’s recovery principles by encouraging self-determination and community inclusion.
• Assist clients in accessing resources for housing, employment, education, healthcare, and social supports.
• Facilitate connections to peer support groups and recovery-oriented activities.
• Model recovery and resilience through appropriate self-disclosure and advocacy.
• Support individuals during transitions, including hospital discharge and entry into treatment.
• Document services accurately and maintain confidentiality in compliance with standards.
• Collaborate with clinical teams and community partners to coordinate care.
