Job summary

Day One Peer Support Specialist at True North Recovery mentors clients to model recovery and shares experiences to promote wellness and resilience. You’ll work with clients, families, sponsors and community supports to remove barriers and rebuild relationships.

You will connect individuals to resources, recognize relapse triggers, and advocate for recovery in the community; CPR/First Aid certification is expected within 90 days, maintaining compliant background checks and driving needs as

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Ability to obtain Peer Support Certification with the State of Alaska within 3 years of hire date.
• Demonstrate a healthy lifestyle and has the ability to share their recovery story.
• Strong Understanding of community resources and referral agencies.
• If in recovery must be in remission for ONE year and working a program of recovery.
• CPR/First Aid/AED certified or able to obtain within 90 days of hire.
• Continued employment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory state and federal background check.
• Must have a valid Alaska’s Driver’s License and insurable under True Norths Vehicle insurance

Responsibilities

• Provide information on support resources available through groups and organizations in Alaska.
• Assist families to understand warning signs, wellness measures, and the recovery process.
• Help individuals have their voices heard and communicate recovery needs to providers.
• Assist individuals in utilizing resources to become more independent (transportation, groups, computers, library card, education, finances, etc.).
• Provide Crisis Support when needed.
• Promote education and advocacy around mental health and recovery to reduce stigma.
• Maintain relationships with community partner agencies.
• Help individuals develop and utilize community supports and resources.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
